Just in time for Christmas is another of James Mann’s books for young car enthusiasts in Motorbooks International’s First Gear series.

Entitled ‘Jaguar Cars’, this A5 soft back book is an illustrated journey through the history of one of Britain’s most exciting car-makers in 224 colour pages packed full of facts and original photography. Deigned as an introduction to the marque, it covers the timeline from Jaguar’s incarnation as a sidecar manufacturer, through it’s re-birth in the postwar years, successes on the track up to the current range of models.

Ex Western Group member Liz Turner, now on the Jaguar Land Rover press team, assisted James source cars for the modern end of the book.

He says “Delving into my archive I realised that, whilst I had most of the classic Jaguars, I was going to have a problem when it came to the modern range. Liz put me in touch with Sarah Pelling and Dan Connell who invited me to one of the local drive days at Eastnor Castle where I was able to photograph the missing cars to fill in the gap”.

James, who has been on the staff of Classic and Sports Car magazine as photographer for over 25 years, has been involved with more than 60 books in his career so far, penning three.

This is James’ second book in the First Gear series, ‘Sports Cars’ came out in 2011 and James is currently working on an update of his best selling ‘How to Photograph Cars’ book which will include interactive links to online tutorials demonstrating technique.

Working with Stuart Codling as author James also launched another book in 2015. ‘Lamborghini Super Cars: 50 years’ is a lavish tome with a forward by Fabio Lamborghini and is also published by MBI.

James has a limited number of copies of the Jaguar Cars book at a special rate for Western Group members and their friends of £10 plus P +P as well as the Lamborghini book for £25 plus P + P so contact him :
