One of the Western Group’s newest members Mark Smyth won no less than two trophies at the Newspress Awards, staged at Bicester Heritage on Thursday 21st Jul. Mark was called up to the stage by the Voice of Strictly Come Dancing and the Voice of the Balls in the National Lottery draws, Alan Dedicoat. His two trophies were for Automotive Business Journalist of the Year and Automotive Technology Writer of the Year. He was also listed for the Classic Car Writer of the Year award too.

Commenting on the awards Mark said, “”The Newspress Awards are open to the whole of the automotive media community and the shortlist featured some of the most respected names in the industry, so I feel extremely honoured to be an award winner this year.

“It’s wonderful to receive recognition for my work across a number of categories and platforms, especially after a difficult couple of years for everyone. I’m really grateful to the judges and to those who published my work and congratulations to all the 2022 winners.”

Mark produces business stories for Autocar, with technology articles across Dorking-based UKI Media titles such as Automotive Testing Technology International, Crash Testing Technology International and Tire Testing Technology International. He is also a regular contributor to Car Design News, Car and Classic, Car.co.uk as well as CAR magazine in South Africa.
