There’s a new face at the helm of the Western Group of Motoring Writers.

At their annual general meeting courtesy of Mitsubishi Motors in Cirencester, Iain Dooley stepped up from joint vice-chairman to become the chairman.

Outgoing chairman Robin Roberts remains on the group’s committee, as he takes over Iain’s post and joins Kieron Fennelly, who remains the group’s other vice-chairman. Steve Grant remains the secretary, while founding group member John Kerswill continues as treasurer.

Iain, a freelance automotive writer and previously part of the Press Association’s motoring editorial service, has been a long-time member of the group and said, “I’m honoured to represent the group and its interests at a time when motoring media professionals face growing challenges in a rapidly changing business environment. I’m looking forward to engaging with the motoring industry to help promote the craft and ensure its voice and work reaches readers and consumers.”

The AGM saw members give the go-ahead for its annual driving day, giving PR and industry colleagues the chance to become the guests, and agree to make two charitable donations – £600 for WOMAC and £400 for the Little Harbour Children’s Hospice South West, located within the group’s area in St Austell, Cornwall.
