How to join

The Western Group of Motoring Writers welcomes applications from anyone working across the broad spectrum of automotive journalism.

So whether you’re an editor, writer, vlogger, blogger or photographer, you’re welcome to apply.

The highlight of the Western Group’s year is our Driving Day every June – a unique event because it’s the only time PRs from the major manufacturers get to drive their rivals’ cars in one place.

Naturally, we get to drive them too and it’s a fantastic informal networking opportunity. In 2025 we had 33 cars and pick-ups from 24 brands – and 30 PR guests.

As a Group, we are also sometimes invited to media range drive days staged by manufacturers. We also hold regular meetings, both in person and online, and organise social events for members.

If you’re interested in joining the Western Group, please contact our Secretary, Steve Grant, via the form below. He will then guide you through the joining process. Applicants will be required to provide recent examples of their work. Applications are then discussed by the Group’s committee at its next meeting.
