Renowned motor-sport radio broadcaster Greg Strange died on Friday after a short illness at the age of 61.

He is best known for his coverage of touring cars and rallying but he also had experience reporting international rugby when he worked with the BBC.

At the BBC his journalistic career ran alongside Colin McRae and Richard Burns and when the public service broadcaster reduced its coverage he created iRally to bring the sport to fans.

He was a pioneer in bringing radio reportage to rallying and his work laid the basis for the very extensive coverage now devoted to the sport by the media.

Never one to shy away from controversy, Greg could always be found at the centre of a debate and the sport will be the poorer for the loss of his voice, presence and input with experience gained over the decades.

Greg is survived by Welsh wife, Eiddwen, and daughter Olivia.
